I need help with making an application for social assistance

If you want to make use of the help of the Social Welfare Office for the first time, contact the regionally responsible district authorities, Social Welfare Department. You will be given an appointment for a personal visit, and you should also take the necessary documents and receipts with you. The initial application will be filled out at this appointment.

Complete documents are particularly important.

Please note the following:

  • If you are appearing on behalf of another person, you will need a power of attorney.
  • You must provide evidence of all your income and your monthly expenses for rent and energy, including maintenance payments. For example, with the tenancy agreement, the rent notice, the bill from the energy provider, maintenance agreements etc.
  •  In order for the Social Welfare Office to determine the accuracy of your information, 4 months' bank statements and a product overview from your bank must also be submitted.
  •  Foreign citizens must also present their residence card. If you are entitled to asylum, the integration agreement may also be required. If you do not speak German well, please bring an interpreter with you.

Follow-up applications must be submitted in an informal letter, and you must have fulfilled the requirements on the last page of your decision.
